NSS Camp 2026

National Service Scheme (NSS)
 Annual Camp
Samaldas Arts College
Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University

Samaldas Arts College, affiliated with Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University, organized a seven-day National Service Scheme (NSS) Annual Camp from 17th to 23rd February 2026 at Lokbharti Gram Vidyapith, Sanosara. The central theme of the camp was “સ્વચ્છતા અભિયાન અને પડકાર” (Cleanliness Campaign and Challenges), aiming to cultivate environmental awareness, discipline, and social responsibility among students. I had the opportunity to attend the camp for three days and experience its enriching activities.

Inauguration Ceremony

The camp began with an Inauguration Ceremony at Lokbharti Gram Vidyapith, Sanosara. The atmosphere was energetic and enthusiastic as NSS volunteers, faculty members, and guests gathered for the formal opening of the camp.

The ceremony was graced by respected dignitaries including Dr. Arunbhai Dave, Managing Trustee of Lokbharti Gram Vidyapith and Vice Chancellor of Gujarat Vidyapeeth; Dr. Bhavesh Jani, Deputy Registrar of Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University; Smt. Raiyaben Miyani, President of Bhavnagar District Panchayat; Shri Hirabhai Sambad, Sarpanch of Sanosara; and Shri Hasmukhbhai Devmurari, Director of the Lokbharti Gramvidyapith Trust. Our college Principal, Dr. Vishvas Joshi, was also present at the inauguration, along with other faculty members from our college.

During the inauguration, Dr. J. B. Gohil delivered a speech on the topic “ગ્રામોદ્ધારથી રાષ્ટ્રોદ્ધાર” and presented the outline of the camp. He explained how the development of villages leads to the development of the nation and encouraged students to understand their social responsibilities.

Dr. Arunbhai Dave also addressed the gathering and spoke about Lokbharti Gram Vidyapith—its vision, working system, and guiding principles. He explained that the institution focuses more on skill development, self-reliance, and values rather than merely earning money. His words highlighted the importance of practical education and rural upliftment.

On the second day, the morning began with a cleanliness drive as part of the camp theme. The NSS volunteers were divided into five teams, and each team was assigned different areas of the campus to clean. The students worked sincerely and with great teamwork, showing responsibility towards maintaining cleanliness.

Lokbharti campus was very beautiful, clean, and peaceful. There were many trees and plants all around, creating a fresh and natural environment. The greenery of the campus made the atmosphere calm and pleasant, which perfectly matched the theme of cleanliness and sustainability.
After the cleanliness activity, an Interactive Session was conducted by Shri Vishal Bhadani on the topic “Internet for Life.” The session focused on transformative learning and the role of the internet and social media in shaping our thinking and behavior.

He spoke about internet usage, privacy, data protection, and online safety. He explained how personal data can be misused and advised students to be careful while sharing information on social media. He also discussed how the internet can be biased and how algorithms influence what we see online, encouraging students to think critically and verify information before accepting it as truth. He motivated students by saying that “you are your own competitor” and encouraged them not to become “couch potatoes” by wasting time online.

Astronomy Session

Later in the day, an Astronomy Session was conducted by Shri Hasmukhbhai Devmurari and Dharti Jograna. The session was very informative and engaging. They explained about galaxies, stars, planets, and the structure of the universe in a simple and understandable way. Students learned how vast and fascinating space is, and how astronomy helps us understand our place in the universe.

In the evening at 8:30 p.m., a live sky observation session was organized on the ground. With the help of a telescope, students observed different constellations and stars. The experts explained the names and positions of the stars and how to identify them in the night sky.
The experience of watching the stars directly in the open sky created excitement and curiosity among the students. It was one of the most memorable moments of the camp.

On the third day, we had a guided visit to Lokbharti Gram Vidyapith, Sanosara, under the guidance of Shri Dinubhai Chudasama. The visit helped us understand the working system and values of the institution.

Visit to Lokbharti Gram Vidyapith

We explored various places on the campus, including the dining hall, Kalabhavan, the Community Science Center, the gaushala (cow shelter), wheat fields, and the Natural Farm Input Resource Center. Through this visit, we learned how Lokbharti focuses on self-reliance, skill development, and sustainable living. One of the most impressive aspects of the campus was their water management system. We learned how rainwater is collected and stored through rainwater harvesting methods.

Session on agriculture and farming

Later, an Interactive Session on agriculture and farming practices was conducted. The session provided useful information about natural farming, rural development, and the importance of agriculture in our daily lives.

Essay competition

After that session an essay competition held in a chikoo Vadi. Surrounded by nature, students felt calm and inspired. The peaceful environment helped them connect with nature while expressing their thoughts through writing. It was a unique and refreshing experience for everyone.
In the evening, students participated in a Ratri Sabha (night assembly). During this session, students shared their experiences of the entire day and reflected on the activities conducted. It was a meaningful time where everyone could express their thoughts and learn from each other.

Ratri Sabha

the camp, students were divided into different groups and were given specific responsibilities. Each group had different duties for the day. One group was responsible for cleanliness, another managed the mess arrangements, one handled session arrangements, and another took care of equipment and other necessary arrangements. These responsibilities helped students learn teamwork, discipline, and leadership skills.
The Ratri Sabha became a platform where students discussed how they managed their duties and what they learned from the experience. It created a sense of unity and cooperation among everyone.

During the camp, we also attended the Lokbharti Gram Vidyapith prayer session, where the students of Lokbharti performed the morning prayer with discipline and devotion. The prayer created a peaceful and positive atmosphere on the campus and reflected the values of the institution.

prayer

After the prayer, meaningful activities were conducted. On one day, a video clip on cyber fraud was shown to create awareness about online safety and digital responsibility. The video helped students understand the risks of online scams and the importance of protecting personal information.

On another day, an inspiring story was read during the session. The story encouraged students to develop good values, determination, and a positive attitude towards life.
Overall, the NSS camp was a meaningful learning experience. It was not just about activities, but about understanding the true meaning of service. The motto of NSS, “Not Me, But You,” was clearly reflected in every task and responsibility carried out by the students.
